Batu-batu di Ketinggian (To The Holy Stones Above Us) (2023)
dir. Hafiz Rancajale, Luthfan Nur Rochman
Overshadowed by the narratives of colonial modernity, Indonesia’s pre-colonial visual and spiritual histories linger as fragmented memories. Journeying through the mist-laden volcanic highlands of Central Java, Batu-batu di Ketinggian revisits ancient Hindu-Buddhist temple ruins scattered across these active mountain clusters. Drawing on archaeological and contemporary interpretations, it traces a millennium-old relationship between stone monuments and the sacred geography of the North Serayu range. As past and present converge in these clouded terrains, the temples emerge as living sites where science, belief, and myth continue to be part of humanity’s connection to the Mountain Gods.
