Synopsis
Riding off the legacy of cult horror thrillers Cure (1997) and Pulse (2001), Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s deliciously horrific explorations of societal rage and internet anxiety find new form in Cloud. Dissatisfied and indignant, factory worker Ryosuke Yoshii (Masaki Suda) quits his job to run full-time scams as an online scalper. Under the pseudonym Ratel, Yoshii deals all sorts of items – handbags, figurines, medical tools – anything to reach his idyllic dream of wealth and luxury.
As Yoshii’s profits begin to soar at the expense of others, he whisks his girlfriend Akiko (Kotone Furukawa) away to a new life in a secluded lakeside house outside the city, enlisting the help of a mysterious young local, Sano (Daiken Okudaira). Everything seems to be going well until suspicious incidents begin occurring – a broken window, stalkers looming around the house, angry customers online, until Yoshii is left fighting for his life.
