Film screening will be followed by a panel discussion with filmmakers and practitioners working in conservation. Her Shark Story This feature-length documentary tells the moving story of Sofia, a young marine biologist from the Galapagos Islands, who reconnects with her estranged father Jonathan through their shared mission to study and protect the world’s largest shark, the whale shark. Filmed over four years in the extraordinary Galapagos, the film is both a personal journey of self- discovery and a wider reflection on family, adventure, and redemption. With breathtaking cinematography and a stirring soundtrack, it captures not only the majesty of the ocean but also the fragile bonds between people and nature. At its heart, the film is about female empowerment, the enduring importance of parent–child relationships, and a universal need for connection that transcends place and circumstance. Her Shark Story, Green Filmmaking & The myth of sharks Hear from the Director of Her Shark Story in this discussion of nature filmmaking and sharks. Joined by an expert in Marine Ecology and founder of a marine conservation initiative, the conversation will highlight efforts in conservation of sharks, using art to spread the message and cultivating and maintaining ecosystems that support the species’ health. A Changemaker’s Journey: Using Voice, Vision, and Purpose for Nature “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” As we seek to find solutions to protect, restore, and strengthen nature and biodiversity, every one of us needs to be advocates for our environment. Join this very special session with Nadya Hutagalung, Environmentalist and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador to hear from her experience as a changemaker and how she stands up for the planet, and what you can do too.
