In 1982, French President François Mitterrand launches an international competition to create his landmark project: the Grande Arche de la Défense, envisioned as a modern counterpart to the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe. Against all expectations, the winner is Otto von Spreckelsen, a 53-year-old Danish architect unknown in France. Thrust into the heart of Parisian ambition and bureaucracy, he fights to realise his visionary design, only to find his ideals tested by the pressures of politics, ego and compromise.
