Sold out at the Singapore International Film Festival 2025, Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi's Palme d'Or winning film It Was Just An Accident is a worthy follow-up to an impressive body of work including Taxi Tehran, This Is Not A Film, 3 Faces and many more. In Accident, Panahi revisits his own experience being incarcerated in Iran for his work as a dissident filmmaker and asks the pertinent question: what if he met his captors after he was released? How would he feel, and more pertinently, what would he do? SYNOPSIS: Vahid, an unassuming mechanic, is suddenly reminded of his time in an Iranian prison when he has a chance encounter with Eghbal, a man he strongly suspects to be his sadistic jailhouse captor. Panicked, Vahid rounds up a few of his fellow ex-prisoners to try and confirm Eghbal's identity. Master filmmaker Jafar Panahi creates a deeply felt moral thriller, where high stakes tension combines with unexpected flurries of humour and thoughtful, sometimes devastating questions regarding persecution and revenge.
