Presented by Asian Film Archive
Fundamentally Happy (2015)
Wednesday, 8 April 2026
8:00 pm — 9:10 pm (70 min)
Event Description
Inspired by Asian Film Archive’s own repository of films, Off the Catalogue presents a curated mix from its collection, ready to be rediscovered by contemporary eyes.
April’s programme is an homage to the popular theatrical tradition of the ‘chamber play’, as it brings together four films set in minimal locations with small casts, magnifying character psychology and intimate drama.
Synopsis
Fundamentally Happy (2015)
A young man pays a visit to his old neighbour while on a trip home. This encounter stirs up bittersweet memories and a repressed traumatic event that forces both parties to confront their deepest and darkest secrets.
Adapted from the award-winning play of the same name by Haresh Sharma and Alvin Tan, Fundamentally Happy premiered at the 50th Southeast Asian Film Festival. The film was shot by acclaimed cinematographer Christopher Doyle.
