Inspired by Asian Film Archive’s own repository of films, Off the Catalogue presents a curated mix from its collection, ready to be rediscovered by contemporary eyes.
April’s programme is an homage to the popular theatrical tradition of the ‘chamber play’, as it brings together four films set in minimal locations with small casts, magnifying character psychology and intimate drama.
Synopsis
4:30 (2006)
The confined setting of a messy HDB apartment sets the scene for a tepid but tender relationship between its inhabitants, Xiao Wu, a primary school student and Jung, a middle-aged Korean immigrant. Both grapple with sadness and loneliness brought on by abandonment and depression.
