            A Poet (2025)
I had a chance to watch a preview screening of A Poet which opens at Filmhouse this weekend: a bitterly funny take on art-making, unfulfilled potential, and mentorship. Your mileage may vary as the film is acerbic, cringe-inducing, and sometimes painful to watch with plenty of unlikable characters... but I do recommend it, especially if all of that sounds novel to you!
Minds Film Festival has been running since last week, with a pair of films that are screening for free in different community spaces, alongside social enterprise marketplaces and other event extras that advocate for people with intellectual disabilities.
Central Arts Library is also hosting a short film programme with a pair of Singaporean films focused on fatherhood with a Q&A with the filmmakers if you're looking for local perspectives!
There's also a lot going on that's new at Filmhouse, including the special opening of Ha-Chan Shake Your Booty!, as well as a series focused on the work of the Coen Brothers with a trio of classics: Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and No Country for Old Men. These are all fantastic films, and a rare chance to see on the big screen. Deep Cut also has a podcast episode on No Country for Old Men, alongside a few other Coen deep cuts.
That's a lot going on as we enter the tail end of September and ready for the cinematic onslaught of October... (Many) Film festivals they are a-coming, and SGIFF is about to drop their line-up on the 25th of September... Get ready.
